Set up IPTV on Dreambox, Vu+ and other Enigma2 receivers

Enigma2 is the operating system on Dreambox, Vu+ and a long tail of compatible satellite receivers. It plays IPTV perfectly well, but it is the least uniform platform covered here: menu wording, the plugins available and even the network screens differ between images, and two boxes of the same model can behave differently because somebody flashed a different build. This guide sticks to the parts that hold across images and tells you where yours will differ.

Your login details are on your subscription page in your account, under Dashboard → Subscriptions. Open the subscription you want to set up and use the copy buttons next to each field rather than retyping them — a single wrong character in a password or URL looks exactly like a service fault.

The field you need here is the **M3U playlist URL**.

Check the subscription works first

Do this before touching the receiver. Open the **M3U playlist URL** in a player on a phone or a computer — the Windows guide covers the quickest way — and confirm channels play.

It is worth the two minutes because Enigma2 gives poor feedback when something is wrong: a bad playlist, an unreachable box and an image without the right plugin all look like an empty channel list. Confirming the subscription first turns three possible causes into one.

Find the receiver's IP address

You will need it for every method below.

1. On the receiver, open **Menu → Setup → System → Network**.
2. Open the device or adapter settings for the connection you use.
3. Note the IP address shown, usually something like 192.168.1.x.

Give the receiver a static address, or a DHCP reservation on your router, if the option is there. An address that changes on the next reboot means redoing this every time the power goes out.

Load the playlist

From a computer on the same network, open a browser and go to `http://` followed by the receiver's IP address. Most current images serve a web interface there, and it is the practical way to work on the box — a full keyboard beats the remote control for pasting a URL.

From there, the route depends on your image: current builds carry an IPTV or playlist plugin that accepts an M3U URL and converts it into a channel bouquet. Use whichever your image provides, give it the **M3U playlist URL** from your subscription page, and reboot the receiver when it finishes so the new bouquet is picked up.

If your image has no such plugin, the honest answer is that the plugin is the thing to sort out first, and which one to install depends on the image rather than on us. Support can tell you what your subscription needs; it cannot tell you what your particular build ships with.

A note on the older Telnet instructions

Instructions circulating for these boxes — including the ones this site used to publish — tell you to connect over Telnet on port 23 and log in as `root` with a default password. Follow them and you have opened an unencrypted administrative session, on a device sitting on your home network, using a password that is the same on every box of that model and is documented publicly.

We are not republishing that. Use the web interface above. If you genuinely need a shell, current images ship SSH, and the first thing to do on any receiver reachable from more than one machine is change the root password.

If channels do not appear

• **Nothing at all after a reboot** usually means the bouquet was created but not selected. Press the bouquet button and look for a new list rather than scrolling the existing one.
• **The list is there and nothing plays** points at the receiver's route to the internet rather than at the playlist, especially if the same playlist plays on a phone.
• **It worked and then stopped** — check whether the receiver's IP changed.
